Early Training and Graduate School
Before and during her graduate work at the University of Southern California (USC), Lynn had the chance to work alongside Dr. Guinevere Eden as a research assistant at a reading disability brain research lab at Georgetown University. She also worked in Los Angeles at Kaiser Permanente’s well-known outpatient psychiatric clinic, as well as the local Veterans Administration. Lynn worked with diverse peoples shouldering challenges and difficulties ranging from reading disorders to PTSD, depression, anxiety, addictions, work challenges, and trauma. During this time, she discovered a love for working with individuals and small groups, and a gift for listening, connecting with, and understanding people’s struggles.
She also discovered a special calling to work with couples, in part as a consequence of her and her husband’s (Dr. Matt Lyon) own attempts to process their individual childhood experiences in order to foster a lasting, loving, and genuinely supportive marriage. As they worked through an Imago Relationship Therapy Couples Workshop in Washington D.C., in 2000, Lynn realized that in order to help others, she had to know what it was like to work on her own relationships and on herself. The experience at the couples workshop would prove to be quite significant in later years, when Lynn realized her deep desire to support struggling, committed couples as a collaborative therapist.

Looking Inward
Lynn’s experience with therapy extended into individual therapy, as well as couples therapy, where she acknowledged and processed various familial patterns and personal coping patterns that were potential and actual obstacles to her own development. Growing up in Connecticut, she experienced family patterns and events that impacted her emotionally and led her to feel responsible for others’ happiness. Unspoken tension and difficult communication patterns created confusion and some struggle for Lynn to feel ‘good enough’. Lynn was not initially aware of the disconnection and sadness she often experienced.
Through therapy and by nurturing spiritual practices, Lynn realized she had unrealistic expectations about herself that led her to never feel ‘good enough’. These patterns had led to a depression she hadn’t been aware of for some time. As she began to move past her own previously unacknowledged pain, and as she felt herself begin to thrive in new ways, Lynn felt her empathy deepen. She became more inspired to help others reach their full potential (finding their ‘wholeness’ and truest self) by working through experiences and thoughts that were holding them back.

A Professional Journey
After graduate school, Lynn spent some time working as a therapist in a Los Angeles psychiatric teaching hospital. She also worked as a crisis therapist in Washington state, before turning to full-time private practice, which she has been engaged in since 2009. She has also spent time in Mexico, Spain and Nicaragua, countries for which she feels a special connection. She speaks Spanish, and has experience offering client sessions in Spanish.
Having cross cultural experience and being multilingual allows Lynn to think laterally and to successfully connect with people from various backgrounds, on many levels. A perpetual student and lifelong learner, Lynn regularly attends meditation retreats, enriching community events, and continues to work on herself and her relationships. She consistently integrates the latest neuroscience and evidence-based knowledge, as well as regularly attends workshops (virtual and in-person) in her field to greatly enhance her offerings to clients.

Working With Individuals & Couples
While working with individuals, Lynn also found a special calling for working with couples. As referenced earlier, this particular specialty grew out of her own personal experience. Lynn, and her husband Matt, had individual family experiences that led them to think deeply about how to create a strong, supportive, loving partnership.
After attending the Imago Relationship Therapy Couples Workshop; learning intently from an outstanding Imago trained couples therapist for many years; and experiencing profound changes in marriage after sharing a business and having children; Lynn knew she wanted to support other couples. It became clear that by working on herself and her relationship for many years, Lynn was reaching her fullest potential as a person, and she wanted to share what she discovered with others.

This discovery was deeply exciting for Lynn. By being the best version of herself, Lynn shares her knowledge and guidance with other individuals and couples more effectively. She has and continues to do the leg work, just like her clients, and is therefore able to deliver an authentic and dynamic experience.
